Then, the next important news. I've got a sofabed. For those of you who follow my twitter account this is not news, but a picture of my sofabed, that's world class news. Have a look. I haven't tried it yet, but you're most welcome to give it a try...when you're a friend of mine of course (who now's who all's reading this blog).
Of course, when my couch was delivered the discussion of other furniture in my house arose. My landlord came to pick up the furniture i'd borrowed till i got my own and i asked very softly if she was also going to take out the bar. It's the most hiddeous thing i've ever seen, its big, ugly and unpractical. I'm sorry if i'm offending the maker; it may be perfect for a two level terrace near a swimming pool, but in my small apartment it's really occuping my house. And if i have to give up room in my apartment, i'd rather have a nice guy around to share the place with me ;-) Anyways, my landlord told me very harsh that the bar is not going anywhere. She must have felt my shock and heard my mind 'either the bar is moving out, or i'm moving out'. So the next day may landlord came back...the bar is moving out on Tuesday! Let's finally open that bottle of champagne that's been in my fridge since I arrived. Or shall i do that when my new curtains are hanging? Well, you've seen the picture of the bar by now. Let me know if i was exaggerating, please!
And of course, an apartment needs ART! A young artist named Sjoerd spend some serious time and effort in making something especially for me. I brought it to Curacao from Amsterdam and I finally found a frame. It still needs a color matching paspartou but for now it's framed and on my wall! Special thanks to Sjoerd and I know someone's even prouder right now.
Other news: every morning I get into my car and drive to work. Very conveniently, there are newspaper ladies who sell the newspaper at traffic lights. It's 1,25 antillian guilders so I make sure I have that every morning. this is part of my routine now and I like it. Not that i can read the paper...it's in papiamentu. But so far i try to read the headlines.
When i get home i try to learn a few words in papiamento from one of the books i've bought on this language.
The most appropriate word i've learned for this moment is.
Bon nochi, drumi dushi.
(Good night, sweet dreams).
