Latest news

So, let's see, what's new.....I had a haircut! Actually, I had two. The first time it was cut half way, the second time is was cut all the way. So my hair is short again. I want my own curls back and this is the only way. And since I'm swimming, diving and will be sailing a lot, it's kind of practical. So let me know what you think. Short or Long.
Then, the next important news. I've got a sofabed. For those of you who follow my twitter account this is not news, but a picture of my sofabed, that's world class news. Have a look. I haven't tried it yet, but you're most welcome to give it a try...when you're a friend of mine of course (who now's who all's reading this blog).
Of course, when my couch was delivered  the discussion of other furniture in my house arose. My landlord came to pick up the furniture i'd borrowed till i got my own and i asked very softly if she was also going to take out the bar. It's the most hiddeous thing i've ever seen, its big, ugly and unpractical. I'm sorry if i'm offending the maker; it may be perfect for a two level terrace near a swimming pool, but in my small apartment it's really occuping my house. And if i have to give up room in my apartment, i'd rather have a nice guy around to share the place with me ;-) Anyways, my landlord told me very harsh that the bar is not going anywhere. She must have felt my shock and heard my mind 'either the bar is moving out, or i'm moving out'. So the next day may landlord came back...the bar is moving out on Tuesday! Let's finally open that bottle of champagne that's been in my fridge since I arrived. Or shall i do that when my new curtains are hanging? Well, you've seen the picture of the bar by now. Let me know if i was exaggerating, please!

And of course, an apartment needs ART! A young artist named Sjoerd spend some serious time and effort in making something especially for me. I brought it to Curacao from Amsterdam and I finally found a frame. It still needs a color matching paspartou but for now it's framed and on my wall! Special thanks to Sjoerd and I know someone's even prouder right now.
Other news: every morning I get into my car and drive to work. Very conveniently, there are newspaper ladies who sell the newspaper at traffic lights. It's 1,25 antillian guilders so I make sure I have that every morning. this is part of my routine now and I like it. Not that i can read the paper...it's in papiamentu. But so far i try to read the headlines.
When i get home i try to learn a few words in papiamento from one of the books i've bought on this language.
The most appropriate word i've learned for this moment is.

Bon nochi, drumi dushi.
(Good night, sweet dreams).

The Weather

Let's talk about something else...the Weather. Sometimes they say that if you talk about the weather, you don't have anything to talk about so you might as well shut up. Well, I'll try to make this interesting.

During my vacations in November and December, it was rain season. Now, it was hardly raining at that time and when you come from Holland...let's just say I liked the refreshments. And now it's March and that means dry season here. So today it rained!

During this season it is very windy, not just a little, but very very windy. It's nice in a way because due to the wind it is also kite season. Now, I work on weekends so I can't go to any kite meets, but it should be fun if you are ever to visit during this season.

This week we had a weather warning though, because of the same wind. It doesn't just carry kites it also carries waves to a very high level and moves sea creatures towards the shore. One of them is the Portuguese Man of War. The name alone will scare you enough as it is. This creature looks like a jelly fish, which it's not, and it's got tentacles that can become 50 meters long. These tentacles are very poisonous. So if you ever get here; watch for these babies and stay away from them. If you find them on the beach, still stay away from them!

Having a good time!

Ok....so no news on the previous pictures. Time's flying by and there's some much to show. First, the weekend here starts on Wednesday Night, salsa at Hook's hut.

Thursday, salsa at De Heeren. Friday it's salsa at Asia de Cuba (when you're a little older) or Bermuda (when you're a little younger or look younger ;-)Then on Saturday night you party at Mambo Beach.
On Sunday you do the happy hours at seaquariumbeach. 1st at Hemingway, then at Mambo Beach and then at Wet & Wild. Then you go back to Hemingway for salsa night and then you move on to Mambo Beach for more live music and more salsa. If you're a real party animal, you just continue on Monday at Soprano's for live crazy piano. And on Tuesday i is at least my day off from work, but I'm sure there's a happy hour somewhere.
Actually tomorrow (Tuesday), there's one at the boat. We're having a little personnel party: a sunset cruise on our new boat! It was fun to organise and then the circle is round! Once every week on Friday night, one of my colleague and her sister sing at Mundo Bizarro. My favorite place so far. We were there last Friday. Here are some pics of my colleagues & me.

Oh, and by the way...I got a hair cut.
